Europe 2017: Anzac Day

Last night we planned to get up very early to go down to Juno beach to have our own little Anzac day ceremony on the beach. However the rain that came overnight and the lack of any kind of heat outside meant we delayed it a little until the sun was up. We had some Vegemite on toast and then set off for Juno. Tony read out the Ode of Remembrance and we had a minute of silence before we jumped back in the car and began our trip east for Guines.

Guines is in the Picardy region of France and is slightly south of Calais. Were only staying here one night to break up the drive to Amsterdam tomorrow. Were trying to drive only around the 300 km per drive so that its not too stressful. The drivers here are nuts - very little awareness of what is around them, and I don't think they would care anyways.

We went on an amazingly different amount of roads today. From massive freeways with all sorts of shaped bridges overhead, to pebble back roads and the usual tiny french streets. We also got to see the white cliffs of Dover as we passed Calais.

Another eurocamp cabin tonight. I thought I preferred hotels, but these have been kinda handy as they're much roomier than a hotel. And, because I have a shocking cold making me snore worse than normal it gives Tony an out - onto the couch when he can no longer sleep next to the buzz saw.

We arrived here again at around 2 pm so once we had unpacked and had a little snooze, Tony and Nate had a couple of games of mini golf. Each of the campsites we have visited have been owned by different companies, and the cabins are all own by different companies again. This particular camp has not only cabins, but lots of sites for caravans. Originally it would have been a country chateau complete with mansion and stables etc. Was quite lovely actually.
